Mokka

Colombia Mokka

$53.00

Mokka is a very special varietal of Arabica, with beans that are tiny in comparison to it’s siblings. It produces a distinctive and characteristic chocolate note, which creates a unique and multi-faceted cup profile.

It has been understood that authentic Mokka genetics originated from Yemen and was collected by Brazilian researchers. From the Yemeni peninsula the origins of Mokka spread beyond the Arabic Peninsula to the Southwest of Asia, Europe, India, Indonesia, and finally tropical America. This particular coffee is a cultivar crossed with a Hawaiian Typica, which was sent from Brazil in the 1950’s and 60’s. This cultivar was then sent to Granja La Esperanza in Colombia, where through innovation and experimentation it has been refined to produce an excellent and complex cup.

This particular Mokka is a ‘tall mokka’ with small cherries, leaves, and beans characteristic of its Bourbon mutant cousin, however it is taller like Typica with more leaves. As a natural processed coffee it exhibits a pungent fragrance and fruit focused cup, with a cocoa finish that we think is very special.
