Karatu Coffee Factory is located in Central Province, Thika District near Gatundu town. It was established in 1965 and rests on a 11 acres serving Karatu, Gitwe, Kibiru and Kigaa Villages. Currently it is affiliated to Gitwe Farmer Cooperative Society. Its membership currently includes 700 active farmers delivery cherry to the centralised wet mill.
After harvesting all cherry delivered undergoes the wet processing method. Water is pumped from the Rwabura river to the reservoir tanks for pulping and recirculation. After pulping the coffee is stored overnight, washed, soaked and spread on the drying tables.
