Peru La Danta Espresso
Peruvian coffee is not typically granted recognition in the industry, and as such is a true hidden Gem. We find ourselves drawn to the Cajamarca region of Peru every year, and it really demonstrates it’s potential as a coffee producing province.
This year, Peru was greatly affected climate change. Due to persistent rainfall, cherry growth was impacted heavily whilst leaf rust disease proliferated throughout crops. On top of this, the pandemic presented a huge challenge to overcome for the local industry and people. Cherry prices were low, labour was short and economic restrictions meant that the coffee industry was crippled.
We are grateful to not only receive Peruvian coffees to our door this season, but also to be able to work with our importer partners Caravela to purchase this Community lot; a blend of coffees produced along the highlands of San Ignacio, Cajamarca. More than 70 small-scale coffee growers with average farm size of 2 hectares contributed to this parcel and we are extremely happy to be able to support this community in a very small way.
