Rwanda Ruli Peaberry Filter
This lot comes from the Ruli Washing Station which is owned by the Dukunde Kawa Cooperative. The washing station is located in the rugged Northwest in the town of Musasa, at around 1,960 metres above sea level.
Directly translated ‘Dukunde Kawa’ means ‘love coffee’ in Kinyarwanda; with what they’re producing, we’d definitely agree. All of Dukunde Kawa’s members are small-scale producers who typically own less than a quarter of a hectare of land each. They use this land to cultivate an average of 300-600 coffee trees, along with other subsistence food crops such as maize and beans.
One of the reasons this lot of coffee is so special is that it’s made up entirely
of peaberries, carefully selected and separated out from the rest of the crop’s
pickings at the mill.
An excellent filter and deliciously bright espresso, its cup qualities are resoundingly Kenyan-esque, with delicate fruits and tea-like character.
