At Code Black Coffee, we offer a multitude of barista training courses to match any individual's skill level or desire. Located in the heart of Brunswick, just off Sydney Road, you’ll find Code Black’s training facility nestled beside our flagship cafe and well renowned coffee roastery.

The coffee training courses offered at our Brunswick facility include beginner and advanced barista training, latte art and industry advancement. 

Staffed by our passionate trainers, our training centre is a hub for coffee learning and barista upskilling.

 

What is Barista Training?

Barista training, put simply, is a structured workshop or course that goes through the fundamentals of milk basics, espresso basics, latte art, filter basics, and more.

There are multiple benefits to signing up to barista training! Whether you're new to the industry, wanting to advance your barista skills, or are even a business owner wanting to keep the skills across your café consistent - enrolling in barista training is the way to go.

 

What Does Barista Training Involve?

Education courses range from beginner barista training to roasting and industry advancement. This ensures our partners and their teams are at the forefront of the latest industry information, are able to further their knowledge and skill set, and are able to nurture their passion for exceptional coffee.

 

BEGINNER BARISTA COURSE

We recommend that everyone start off with our Beginner Barista course. This course is designed for anyone who brews coffee at home and wishes to extend their knowledge further. We begin with a tour of the roastery and give you exposure to green beans (what coffee beans are before they are roasted), along with covering what specialty coffee is and how it is evaluated, grinder adjustment, dosing and tamping techniques, milk texturing, and machine and grinder cleaning/maintenance tips. The duration is 2 hours and costs $250 for a one-on-one session or $160 per person for groups of 2 or more. 

In addition, we offer the following courses however we recommend to complete the beginner course first before moving onto these. 

- Advanced Barista

- Latte Art

- Filter Brewing

All courses are available to be booked Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays either 9am-11am or 1pm-3pm. 

 

FILTER COURSE

The sole focus of this course is filter brewing and the different variables that can contribute to your brew. In this course we will cover coffee processing and how it contributes to certain characteristics in a coffee, different filter brewing methods, grind size, how to build a filter recipe, and palate development. The duration is 2 hours and costs $250 for a one-on-one session or $160 per person for groups of 2 or more. 

In addition, we offer the following courses however we recommend to complete the Beginner Barista course first before moving onto these;

  • Latte Art

All courses are available to be booked Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays either 9am-11am or 1pm-3pm. 

 

LATTE ART

This course is purely focused on latte art. We run through the different variables needed to create beautiful latte art such as milk science and correct steaming techniques. In this course you will learn how to pour hearts, tulips and rosettas which are the basis for any latte art design. We do recommend that you have previously completed our Beginner Barista course as it will aid you in getting the most out of the Latte Art course. The duration is 2 hours and costs $250 for a one-on-one session or $160 per person for groups of 2 or more. 

In addition, we offer the following courses;

  • Filter Brewing

All courses are available to be booked Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays either 9am-11am or 1pm-3pm. 

 

ADVANCED BARISTA

We would recommend this course for a barista working in the industry or a home enthusiast who already has a general understanding of coffee and is interested in taking their skills to the next level. We begin with a tour of the roastery, guide you through what contributes to flavour in coffee, how to build an espresso recipe, milk science and latte art. The duration is 2 hours and costs $270 for a one-on-one session or $180 per person for groups of 2 or more. 

In addition, we offer the following courses;

  • Advanced Latte Art
  • Filter Brewing

All courses are available to be booked Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays either 9am-11am or 1pm-3pm.

 

How Long Does Barista Training Take

Each barista training workshop will only take 2 hours to complete, however, depending on your skill level and desire to progress, you may be interested in doing a combination of the coffee training we have on offer. When starting from scratch, we recommend starting off with our Beginner Barista course, and working your way up to our Advanced Barista, Latte Art, and Filter Brewing training sessions. Completing all 4 coffee training sessions can span over the course of 2 to 4 days, depending on your preference.

 

How Much Does Barista Training Cost
